HISTORY OF THE TRI-COUNTY REGION AACA

The Tri-County Region began in 1966 as the Tri-County Antique Car Club. It was organized by Connie Dove, a Broadway, VA resident, who was a member of the Waynesboro-Staunton Region. He felt that there were enough car enthusiasts in northern Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Hardy counties to start a new club. The Club was organized during a meeting held at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Timberville, VA on May 31, 1966 and was chartered with 29 members.

The first activity of the club was a car show at the Horse Show on the American Legion grounds in Timberville, VA on July, 9,1966.

In April of 1976, the first issue of the Club's monthly newsletter, "Clutch Chatter", appeared under the editorship of Larry Huffman. "Clutch Chatter" has been continuously published since then with Larry as its editor. This newsletter has been consistantly recognized with the Award of Excellence and the Master Editor Award at the Annual Meeting of the AACA.

In 1977, the Club voted to seek membership as a Region of the AACA. It received its charter on February 9, 1978. A year later, the Club was incorporated as Tri-County Region AACA, Inc.

The Club's affiliation with AACA has brought many benefits and opportunities to its members. Several of our members have won National Awards for their restored vehicles at Hershey and other National Meets. Members have become qualified judges and have regularly attended judging schools to upgrade their skills. Club members have presented seminars at the annual meeting of the AACA in Philadelphia, PA and also written articles for publication in its bi-monthly magazine, "Antique Automobile".

During our 34 years, we have grown from the original 29 members to today's membership of 120 and from a small, local club of auto enthusiasts to a nationally recognized Region of AACA. But the Tri-County Region has not forgotten its original purpose, to have fun with our old cars and to enjoy each others' fellowship. That's why we can proudly proclaim our slogan:

"Fun and Fellowship Since 1966".

We energetically encourage ANY auto enthusiast in our area to join us.
